Portable Chemical Sensors

Abstract

In order to tackle the high demand existing for implementation of simple, low cost and rapid methodologies for routine monitoring of the presence or absence of pathogen bacteria, we have developed in the last years several electroanalytical strategies exhibiting improved analytical performance in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, easy availability and low cost for the ultrasensitive detection of relevant pathogenic bacteria. This chapter summarizes these works involving methods exploiting microbial metabolism, methods using lectins as bio-receptors and methods that imply the development of immunosensors, genosensors and the so-called magneto-biosensors.
