Abstract
This monograph could not have been completed without a long-term collaboration of geomorphologists in the countries situated within the Carpatho–Balkan–Dinaric region. The first and the most important step towards this collaboration was the founding of the Carpatho–Balkan Geomorphological Commission (CBGC) in 1963. The common objective of geomorphologists of member countries was the study of the mountain systems of the Carpathians and Balkanides (Stara Planina) and the adjacent depressions.
