Abstract
Since more than 20 years Austria has a specific legal and funding framework for contaminated sites management. In 2008 the Ministry of Environment took the initiative to revise the legal framework and prepare a new policy based on the experiences made and taking into account international developments in industrial countries over the past years. The main goal is to proceed with the current contaminated land programme towards an integrated system of contaminated land management supporting environmentally friendly approaches and enhancing cost-efficiency.
