Abstract

Recently, increasing attention has been paid to green communications and networks. Previous studies suggest that certain base stations could be switched off for energy saving during low traffic load periods while maintaining the service coverage. In this Chapter, we proposed an energy saving approach based on cluster analysis. The cluster analysis on original data from an operating cellular network in a big city exploits different traffic patterns of base stations. In addition, specific methods are applied to these different traffic patterns. Simulation results indicate a better energy saving performance based on cluster analysis, compared to the existing approach.
