International Perspectives on Teaching and Learning with GIS in Secondary Schools

Abstract

In this chapter, we describe the status of GIS in the secondary schools of Chile. We emphasize that the impact of information and communication technologies and the reduction of the digital divide in the Pan-American world have paved the way to initially develop GIS in the schools. The chapter concludes that there is a need for better strategies to increase the use of GIS, which should be based on both government and private interaction and collaboration with the school system.
