Abstract
This chapter discusses the status of GIS in secondary schools in the UK. We begin by contextualizing our particular national secondary school scene before shifting our attention fully to our main focus: the use of GIS. Two case studies illustrating both the successes and challenges associated with using GIS in schools are then explored. The chapter concludes with a discussion of some of the key factors that may influence the further development of GIS in the education of young people through both geography and the secondary school curriculum as a whole.
