International Perspectives on Teaching and Learning with GIS in Secondary Schools

Abstract

In this chapter, we briefly describe the status of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the secondary schools of Switzerland. We also present a concept for secondary school students that introduces the entire life chain of geographic information: from data capture with modern technologies and administration to cartographic production and spatial analysis in GIS. The chapter concludes with an outlook and a reflection on both the current application of GIS and its potential for the future.
