Abstract
This chapter discusses the issues related to water quality in the Yamuna River basin, including the sources of pollution. The discussion includes different types of pollution sources, which are categorized into point- and non-point sources. The role of barrages on water quality and their impact on river segmentation are adequately addressed. Further, water quality monitoring sites on the river and monitoring agencies, followed by the importance of physico-chemical characteristics of the water on human and river health, are described.
