Abstract
In this chapter, salient features of the Yamuna River basin are presented, including mythological importance, catchment area description within states, and general river flow regime. Major abstractions, including water-related issues at various locations in the main river stem, are also discussed. The drainage area of the Yamuna River basin encompasses six states, accordingly the inter-state agreement has been formulated for water sharing. A summary of the inter-state agreement is also included in the chapter. Consequences of various abstraction points in the main river are duly addressed in order to identify critical stretches.
