Structural Load Monitoring Systems for Military Aircraft in the Polish Armed Forces with Examples of Selected Activities

ICAF 2011 Structural Integrity: Influence of Efficiency and Green Imperatives

Abstract

Airplanes and helicopters currently operated by the Polish Armed Forces have been introduced into service without any load monitoring systems. The only exception is the F-16 and its Aircraft Structural Integrity Program.

In spite of the fact that the majority of the Polish military airplanes and helicopters are operated according to the safe life principle, a structural load monitoring programs have been developed for a sizeable population thereof. These programs have been originated and implemented by the Polish Air Force Institute of Technology. Most often they accompany the process of equipping the airplanes and helicopters with digital flight data recorders. The majority of currently operated systems are based on the collection and analyses of the nz-signal data. Depending on the type of an airplane or helicopter, the data may be used in different ways. In some cases, reports on aircraft affecting loads with respective analyses are periodically delivered to aircraft operators. In some other instances such reports are created on demand, or when some current, aircraft-structure affecting problem has to be solved.
