Abstract

In France, Ryff’s scales of psychological well-being (SPWB)have not yet been used for older people. This article aims to provide preliminary information on psychometric properties of the 84-item version of the questionnaire in France. A sample of 426 older active adults completed the questionnaire. Reliability was estimated using internal consistency and the factor structure of the questionnaire was extracted by performing both exploratory and confirmatory analyses. Using the shortened version of the instrument, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient ranged from.72 to.88. Exploratory factor analysis indicated five factors. Therefore, five not six factors have been well loaded composing 20 items. Many models were compared by the confirmatory factor analysis. The results showed that indeed five out the six dimensions overlapped considerably for older French people.
