Abstract

The chapter briefly describes the major soil types of the country. There are as many as 21 general soil types based on their occurrence, geographic distribution, morphology, land use, and cropping pattern. The corresponding names for the soil types on the basis of the UNDP-FAO classification system for most of the general soil types are also given.
