Abstract
At the last session of the NATO ARW the corresponding rapporteurs (Dr. Ganev, Dr. Kourtidis and Dr. Galmarini) presented the results of their working groups (the reports are presented in the previous sections of this volume). The workshop was concluded with a round table discussion that addressed the following major topics:1. Using the Large Eddy Simulations (LES) in Meteorological Modelling S. Galmarini posed the question: how LES can be used in large meteorological models? S. Zilitinkevich explained, that we could simulate several PBL situations by LES and create a library for use by the large-scale models. S.E. Gryning noted, that in fact we can use LES results as the basis for deriving suitable parameterisation, when known parameterisations fail (e.g. in extremely stable stratification). M. Tjernström pointed out, that (1) the results of LES are not used in the weather prediction models, (2) there exists no appropriate theory, how the inhomogenities (e.g. land-sea interface) could be treated in LES and (3) up- and down-flows are poorly studied. M. Lazaridis suggested using LES with chemical and aerosol models and D. Steyn proposed to use LES in case studies to better understand the meteorological processes in the regional scale.
