Abstract
Effective Magnetooptic Indicator (MOI) films require domains that are extremely responsive to small magnetic fields. This requires optimization of all magnetic properties in bismuth-doped rare-earth iron. A free energy formulation is used to show the effects of saturation magnetization, crystal orientation, growth-induced anisotropy and stress-induced anisotropy.
