Abstract
The previous chapter has documented that there is considerable variation in material living conditions between clusters of EU member states. There are differences in material living standards as well as differences between member states with respect to income distribution, education and socio-economic conditions. These conditions are being currently discussed as factors of relevance to the level and distribution of health in populations. In addition all of the European states have experienced pronounced structural changes in labour market and living conditions in general during the two recent decades.
