Abstract

Even if the ethics, design, protocol and planning of a clinical research study have been considered thoroughly, and preparation is immaculate, there remains a substantial risk that the project will fail because of shortcomings in the actual conduct of the work. Problems may arise at any stage, and the following guidance clearly cannot cover all eventualities; the aim is to alert you to the most common pitfalls and to suggest both prophylactic and remedial measures.
