Abstract

For the determination of the mechanical properties of endless-fibre reinforced ceramic composites the properties of both, the components and the composite, should be characterized.

For that reason firstly the fibre-bundle tension test according to the European prestandard ENV 1007–5 is introduced. The test is applied to the carbon fibres Tenax HTA7 and Toray T800HB and with the results the problems arising with this testing method are discussed.

Secondly an equipment is presented (EMOTRON 2000), which enables to determine the elastic moduli of anisotropic composites in dependence on the orientation. The testing procedure is applied to a laminated carbon-fibre reinforced carbon composite and by means of the results the problems with the method and the evaluation procedure are discussed.
