Abstract
Concurrent processing is an important feature in any database processing for it enables users simultaneous access, sharing data, and consistent updates of databases. A transaction represents a logical unit of work, atomic, but not necessarily single database operation and often requiring several database transformations. Atomic means that the changes are to be carried out complete, or not at all, from a consistent state of a database into subsequent consistent state. It is not necessary to preserve the database consistency at all intermediate instances. It should also ensure that the net effect of executing the transactions concurrently is not dependent on the order of execution. The transaction also represents a basic recovery unit used by the database recovery process.
