Abstract
The ENVIS project’s perspective was to enhance the scientific and policy-related understanding of those innovations which from an environmental point of view are superior to the equipment or systems they replace or supplement. Such innovations (frequently called environmental innovations) may be developed and adopted by a variety of companies, differing in size and technology. The ENVIS project chose to focus on small and mediumsized enterprises (SMEs) in four traditional sectors which, in one way or the other, involve the treatment of surfaces: offset printing, electroplating, textile finishing and industrial painting.
