Abstract

Gliomas are the most common tumors accounting for 49% of all primary brain tumors and ~2% of all new cases of cancer in the United States. Approximately, 18,000 new gliomas are diagnosed each year in the United States and >60% belong to the most malignant grade IV glioblastomas. Most of these tumors are untreatable, and patients survive as an average of <12 months, and 16,000 will die of this disease during this time despite 30 years of intensive efforts to find an effective chemotherapy.
