Abstract
This chapter gives an overview over modern electric drives. Drive technology trends with respect to electrical machines, power electronic converters, and embedded control and communication links are highlighted. The state-of-the-art in the drive design methodology is discussed and the experimental setup used for obtaining the results shown in this book is presented.
