Abstract
Commutative Algebra (which concerns the study of commutative rings and modules) is the medium for Algebraic Geometry. We shall recall some basic facts on commutative rings (mostly with proofs for the convenience of the reader), state them in the form as required in the sequel and set the notation. The standard references are [11], [14], [38], [51], [53], [60], [61], [63], [64], [72], [82], [86], [95], [105], [112], etc. Our summary will be mainly based on [11] and [64] with occasional reference to others. All rings considered herein are assumed to be commutative and with 1 ≠ 0.
