Abstract
This work has argued that the regime of international intellectual property law as it exists at the present time, can both contribute to economic growth and development and at the same time, stultify such growth through the expropriation of traditional knowledge and can result in breaches of the rights to life, to health, and to food. We have presented the views of thoughtful commentators in countries such as India and South Africa identifying deep unfairness and inequity in the current regime.
