Abstract
The Syrdarya River basin covers an area of 4,85,000 km2 in the territory of four sovereign states: the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. At present, more than 25 million people live on the banks of the Syrdarya River and use the majority of the available water resources for their subsistence and development.
