Abstract

This article offers an overview of the creation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its role in current prosecutions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Northern Uganda, Darfur and the Central African Republic. The author also explores the challenges facing the ICC, including the difficulties involved in conducting investigations and enforcing the court’s decisions. The article concludes with the author’s personal perspective on the goals of the ICC and its ongoing significance in preventing and punishing massive acts of violence.
