Scale is the main concept of the following chapters of this section of the book. Although the scale issue has been highly attractive in landscape ecology and fluvial systems research since the early 1980s, its use is increasingly challenging, especially in the fields of integrated research or management objectives. Together with improved availability for high quality technical use, the importance of the scale issue has arisen in relation to the limitations of the equipment used or the systems it selves.
