Abstract

The interests of, and concerns about, labor outlined in the previous chapter are not simply an academic exercise. Since the idea that nanotechnology can create a revolution in manufacturing was first discussed, labor organizations have raised concerns and sought a voice. In this chapter we reproduce the resolution issued by the European Trade Union Council (ETUC) that Foladori and Zayago Lau refer to at the end of the previous chapter. It is a political statement that argues that trade unions need and deserve a seat at the table when the future of nanotechnology is discussed. The ETUC contends that when certain groups are likely to receive a disproportional amount of the risk generated by nanotechnologies, they should have a greater voice in how those technologies are handled.
