Abstract
Austria is the first European country to constitutionally permit voting at age sixteen years for all elections. The Austrian constitution also allows for the possibility of a change in provincial and local regulations to allow for voting eligibility below age 16 years in provincial and local elections. Yet, these electoral developments in Austria have had little or no impact on voting age eligibility in other democratic States.
