The Measurement and Analysis of Housing Preference and Choice

Abstract

This chapter starts with a description of general research into housing preferences. Next, the procedure for the move from measuring housing preferences to housing demand research is explained. Furthermore, a state of the art of studies that have applied the transverse, or cross-sectional, approach in the analysis of housing demand is provided. In the final section, an example of a repeated cross-sectional analysis is shown, using data from repeated cross-sectional studies into housing demand in the Netherlands. Data are used from the demand for owner-occupied houses at the top end of the housing market in the period 1975–1997.
