Abstract
Durian is native to southeast Asia. It is found wild or semi-wild in South Tenasserim, Lower Burma, and around villages in peninsular Malaya. Wild durian trees are still found in Borneo and Sumatra. Borneo is the centre of diversity for Durio species. Durian is commonly cultivated along roads or in commercial orchards in Thailand, Laos, Kampuchea, Vietnam Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines. Durian is also cultivated from south-eastern India and Ceylon to New Guinea, and the Pacific Islands, Hawaii, Honduras, the Antilles and Zanzibar in Africa. In Australia, it is cultivated northern Australia around Darwin in the Northern Territory and from Tully to Cairns in Queensland.
