Motiveren van cliënten met een antisociale persoonlijkheidsstoornis voor psychotherapeutische behandeling

Samenvatting

De motivatie voor behandeling van mensen met antisociaal gedrag is vaak extern bepaald en kortdurend. De vraag is hoe we deze mensen toch kunnen motiveren om in behandeling te gaan en ook te blijven. Aan de hand van drie belangrijke motivatietheorieën, het Integraal Model voor Behandelmotivatie (IM), het Stages of Change-model (SC) en de zelfdeterminatietheorie van motivatie (ZDT) illustreren we hoe cliënten met antisociale persoonlijkheidsproblematiek gemotiveerd kunnen worden voor behandeling. Belangrijk is om verder te kijken dan alleen het motiveren voor behandeling van problematisch gedrag en aan te sluiten bij waarden en levensdoelen van cliënten. We bespreken verschillende fasen van de behandeling, zoals het begin en de afsluiting, alsmede verschillende gesprekstechnieken, waaronder motiverende gespreksvoering. Ten slotte wordt ook betoogd dat de inzet van ervaringsdeskundigheid een positieve bijdrage kan leveren aan de motivatie voor behandeling.
