Samenvatting

Een 21-jarige voetballer scheurt tijdens een duel met de tegenstander de meniscus. Het is een klein letsel dat na weken nog steeds problemen oplevert. Hoofdstuk 6 begint met het verhaal van deze patiënt en hoe hij na vier weken door de fysiotherapeut wordt onderzocht. Vervolgens beschrijft het hoofdstuk de bevindingen bij het onderzoek, vier weken na het trauma. De symptomatologie is die van een ‘klassieke’ patiënt met een klein mediaal meniscusletsel. De bespreking na de patiëntencasus gaat dieper in op de meniscuslaesie. Anatomie en functie van de menisci worden beschreven evenals het ongevalmechanisme. Er wordt onderscheid gemaakt tussen een traumatisch letsel bij jonge mensen en degeneratieve letsels bij ouderen. Ten slotte wordt uitgebreid aandacht besteed aan de conservatieve en operatieve therapie.
