CPP is opgenomen als een evidencebased behandeling in de Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (zie http://nrepp.samhsa.gov) op basis van vijf gerandomiseerde studies die elk voor CPP betere uitkomsten hebben gevonden in vergelijking met controlegroepen. Het wetenschappelijk bewijs wordt in dit hoofdstuk beschreven.
