Samenvatting
De moderne dokter heeft het moeilijk door de steeds complexere patiënten en de toenemende complexiteit van de gezondheidszorg. Multimorbiditeit, multicausaliteit, multidisciplinaire overleggen en multicomponente behandelingen zijn de regel geworden voor een dokter die nog vooral is opgeleid om infecties en hartinfarcten acuut te behandelen bij redelijk fitte patiënten. Die patiënt is inmiddels echter dramatisch veranderd, heeft allerlei aandoeningen, individuele behandeldoelen en vraagt maatwerk. Ieder van hen vraagt de dokter te helpen bij het kiezen van de best passende zorg. Daarbij past niet dat de dokter stopt met dokteren omdat het zo complex is. Het wordt immers pas complex als we te vroeg stoppen met dokteren en patiënten te snel naar elkaar doorverwijzen, omdat de vraag buiten ons (super)specialisme ligt. De toegenomen complexiteit in de geneeskunde nodigt uit tot meer generalisme en het samen de goede keuzes maken. Zo kunnen we ook in deze context goed blijven dokteren.
