Mevrouw van Amerongen, 71 jaar, overleed thuis, in aanwezigheid van haar kleinkinderen, kinderen en overige dierbare naasten. Het was op Stille Zaterdag. De merels en de lentebloesems waren via de open tuindeur getuigen van haar sterfbed.
Zes jaar eerder bezocht mevrouw van Amerongen de dermatoloog in verband met huidafwijkingen op de linkerborst. Die bleken te berusten op een mammacarcinoom.
