Bij de 63-jarige mevrouw Jacobs is enkele maanden eerder amyotrofische laterale sclerose (als)geconstateerd als zij wordt verwezen naar het Centrum voor Thuisbeademing (ctb). Ofschoon haar longfunctie normaal is en zij geen klachten heeft op het gebied van haar ademhaling, wil zij geïnformeerd worden over de voor- en nadelen van thuisbeademing.
