Samenvatting
Op een hoogtijdag in de zomer komen op Schiphol meer dan 200.000 passagiers voorbij. Onze grote reislust maakt dat wij op tal van manieren kennis-maken met de kosten van levensonderhoud in het buitenland. Die kennismaking nodigt uit tot het vergelijken van eenvoudige en dure consumentengoederen. Wat kost op de reisbestemming een liter benzine, een glas bier, een middenklasser auto, huur van een appartement? Dat leert dat een bezoek aan een café in Zweden duur is en dat de benzine in de Verenigde Staten met $2,20 per gallon (€ 0,52 per liter) in onze ogen spotgoedkoop is en in de ogen van de Amerikanen erg duur.
