Samenvatting
Psychiatrie is een medisch specialisme dat zich bezighoudt met preventie, diagnostiek en behandeling van psychische ziektebeelden. De term psychiatrie is een samenvoeging van het Griekse psyche (ziel/geest) en iatros (arts). De psychiatrie houdt zich bezig met het verlichten van het psychisch lijden ten gevolge van psychiatrische aandoeningen en het verbeteren van het psychisch welbevinden van de psychiatrische patiënt en diens omgeving.
