Samenvatting
Het is misschien handig om, alvorens dit boek verder in te duiken, alvast een rudimentair idee te hebben over hoe psychiatrische diagnostiek idealiter zou moeten werken. Hier bestaan namelijk misverstanden over. Een wijdverbreid misverstand is dat diagnostiek in de psychiatrie bedoeld is om te bepalen wat wel of niet normaal is. Gelukkig houdt de psychiatrie zich daar nadrukkelijk niet mee bezig, want normaliteit, zoals bekend, is een vaag en niet af te grenzen begrip, en verschilt van cultuur tot cultuur, om maar iets te noemen.
