Samenvatting
Kennis van de positie van de lingula mandibulae is nuttig voor het plaatsen van mandibulaire geleidingsanesthesie en voor het plannen van orthognathische chirurgie. Met behulp van 280 cone beam CT-beelden werd in dit onderzoek getracht bij kinderen tussen 6 en 18 jaar de positie van de lingula mandibularis te bepalen ten opzichte van anatomische referentiepunten op de ramus mandibulae en ten opzichte van het occlusale vlak van de mandibulaire dentitie. Statistisch significante verschillen tussen de leeftijdsgroepen (6- tot 9-jarigen, 10- tot 13-jarigen en 14- tot 18-jarigen) werden vastgesteld alsook tussen jongens en meisjes en tussen de rechter en de linker zijde van de mandibula. De klinische relevantie van deze verschillen is dubieus, aangezien het om zeer kleine verschillen gaat. De variatie van de meetresultaten daarentegen is veel belangrijker, omdat dit het falen van een mandibulaire anesthesie kan verklaren. Globaal genomen, als geslacht, leeftijd en zijde van de mandibula niet in acht worden genomen, kan gesteld worden dat de lingula mandibulae zich respectievelijk op ongeveer 25 mm van de anterieure rand en 20 mm van de posterieure rand van de ramus mandibulae kan bevinden en zo’n 14 mm boven het occlusievlak gelokaliseerd is.
