Samenvatting
Wanneer er bij patiënten sprake is van een dentofaciale afwijking die niet voldoende gecorrigeerd kan worden met alleen een orthodontische behandeling, kan gekozen worden voor een gecombineerde behandeling, waarbij orthodontie wordt aangevuld met orthognathische chirurgie. Wanneer dergelijke chirurgie geïndiceerd is, kan er gekozen worden voor een bilaterale sagittale splijtingsosteotomie (BSSO), en/of een lefort I-osteotomie. Wanneer de benige structuren verplaatst worden, zullen ook de weke delen van het aangezicht veranderen. Voor een indruk van het eindresultaat wordt er met behulp van driedimensionale beeldvorming een driedimensionale wekedelensimulatie uitgevoerd om een zo goed mogelijk beeld te verkrijgen van het effect van de operatie. Door het gebruik van nieuwe technologieën kan er worden gewerkt met een virtuele driedimensionale wekedelenplanning, die het gelaat na een operatie kan weergeven. Geconcludeerd kan worden dat driedimensionale simulatie bij orthognathische chirurgie voldoende accuraat is voor klinisch gebruik en als basis voor de driedimensionale virtuele planning kan worden gebruikt.
