Samenvatting

Het vermogen van kinderen om lichamelijke prestaties te leveren, is afhankelijk van de soort prestatie en de daarmee samenhangende fysiologische systemen (zie hoofdstuk 4). Bij gymnastische oefeningen gaat het om spierkracht, snelheid, evenwicht en lenigheid. Deze functies worden geregeld door de hersenen en de spieren: samen het neuromusculair systeem genoemd. Bij langeafstandschaatsen, veldlopen en triatlon zijn hart, bloedsomloop en ademhaling van belang om de spieren van voldoende energie te voorzien: het energetisch systeem.
