Samenvatting

Er worden met betrekking tot jongeren dikwijls de volgende drie termen gebruikt: groei, rijping en ontwikkeling (Malina et al. 2004). Groei is een louter kwantitatief begrip: door groei ontstaat een toename in cellen en/of afmetingen van cellen (zoals spier- en hersencellen), van delen van het lichaam (zoals romp, hoofd en ledematen) of van het hele lichaam (zoals lichaamslengte, en -gewicht).
