Samenvatting
Van de twee begrippen die de titel van dit hoofdstuk vormen, behoeft het eerste - tempo -geen toelichting. Het tweede wel: aandacht is een centraal, maar slecht gedefinieerd begrip in de psychologische functieleer. Hier wordt onder aandacht verstaan: een gerichte informatieverwerking. Daarbij kan het individu op een aspect van de buitenwereld gericht zijn, maar ook op zijn eigen binnenwereld, bijvoorbeeld wanneer hij zoekt naar details in de herinnering van een vakantie. Aandacht heeft twee dimensies, namelijk selectiviteit en intensiteit. Het begrip concentratie, dat in het dagelijkse spraakgebruik heel gangbaar is, combineert die twee dimensies. Wie geconcentreerd een taak uitvoert, is zowel in hoge mate selectief als intensief bezig.
