Samenvatting
Diverse geneesmiddelen kunnen afwijkingen aan de nagels en het nagelapparaat veroorzaken. Meestal is er sprake van acute toxiciteit op de epitheeloppervlakken van het nagelapparaat, zoals bij cytostatica en retinoïden (afgeleiden van vitamine A: alitretinoïne, isotretinoïne, acitretine). Doorgaans zijn door geneesmiddelen geïnduceerde afwijkingen zichtbaar in verscheidene of alle twintig nagels. De aard van de beschadiging is afhankelijk van welke structuren zijn aangedaan. Sommige nagelafwijkingen verlopen asymptomatisch en zijn alleen cosmetisch storend, terwijl andere geneesmiddelreacties aan het nagelapparaat pijnlijk zijn en normale activiteiten met de handen of het lopen kunnen belemmeren. Een overzicht van mogelijke bijwerkingen op de nagels en het nagelapparaat met enkele voorbeelden van geneesmiddelen die deze kunnen veroorzaken, wordt gegeven in tabel 11.1.
