Samenvatting
In dit hoofdstuk wordt beschreven hoe de behandelaar de patiënt uitleg kan geven over zijn pijnprobleem. Ook worden de consequenties besproken die dit heeft voor de graded-exposurebehandeling, waarbij de patiënt zal worden uitgedaagd activiteiten en bewegingen uit te voeren die hij eigenlijk niet goed durft uit te voeren. Omdat hij negatieve verwachtingen heeft over bijvoorbeeld schade, extreme pijntoename of verlies van functioneren. Daarnaast wordt uitgelegd hoe de graded-exposurebehandeling werkt en wat de verklaring voor deze werking is, de behandelrationale. Hierbij wordt onder meer gebruikgemaakt van het vreesvermijdingsmodel, toegepast op het pijnprobleem van de patiënt. Dit hoofdstuk heeft tot doel achtergrondinformatie te geven over de educatie en een praktische leidraad te bieden in de uitvoering van zowel de medische educatie als uitleg over de behandelrationale.
