Samenvatting
In dit hoofdstuk wordt beschreven hoe de Gezonde Volwassene zich in een relatie begeeft, waar hij tegenaan loopt en waar hij mee zal moeten omgaan. Dit wordt gedaan vanuit de visie van de emotionally focused therapy, die zich baseert op de hechtingstheorie. In de levensloop zijn er diverse ontwikkelingstaken die vervuld moeten worden voordat de stap naar een volgende fase kan worden gezet. Een relatie aangaan is enerzijds ingewikkeld, maar anderzijds ook heel natuurlijk. Mensen zijn sociale wezens en overleven nu eenmaal beter in contact met anderen. In een intieme relatie lopen we echter ook tegen onze eigen kwetsbaarheden aan. De angst om verlaten te worden of niet te voldoen bestaat naast het verlangen naar nabijheid en om bijzonder te zijn voor de ander. Verschillende aspecten van relaties komen aan bod, zoals hechting, grenzen, structuur en loslaten.
