Iatrogene schade aan de nervus alveolaris inferior na het verwijderen van verstandskiezen

Samenvatting

Het verwijderen van verstandskiezen is een van de meest uitgevoerde behandelingen in de dentoalveolaire chirurgie. Een gevreesde complicatie daarbij is het iatrogeen beschadigen van de nervus alveolaris inferior, waardoor aan de betreffende zijde het gevoel in de onderelementen, kin en onderlip afneemt, verandert of zelfs helemaal verdwijnt. Om het risico op iatrogene schade te verkleinen en om patiƫnten optimaal te kunnen informeren over dit risico, is het van belang dat verwijzer en operateur kennis hebben van de oorzaken, risicofactoren en diagnostische hulpmiddelen.
