Mondzorg voor kwetsbare ouderen: de situatie vanuit het perspectief van ouderen

Samenvatting

Het aantal dentate kwetsbare ouderen met specifieke tandheelkundige noden en behoeften neemt snel toe. Daarnaast speelt het cliëntperspectief bij het vaststellen van de juiste zorg een steeds grotere rol. Door deze ontwikkelingen worden zowel aan de tandheelkundige zorg voor ouderen als aan de betrokken mondzorgverleners nieuwe eisen gesteld. Uit onderzoek blijkt dat tandartsbezoek, mondhygiëne en behandelbehoefte van kwetsbare ouderen afnemen, terwijl de behandelnoodzaak juist toeneemt en de mondgezondheid sterk te wensen overlaat. Door meer inzicht te verwerven in het mondzorggedrag van kwetsbare ouderen en factoren die hierbij een rol spelen, kan de mondzorgverlener sneller de juiste zorg op maat leveren.
