Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk worden de echografie van de beide atria en daarbij voorkomende congenitale afwijkingen besproken. Eerst komen de anatomie en fysiologie van het linker atrium, het linker hartoor en de longvenen aan bod. Vervolgens wordt op dezelfde wijze het rechter atrium besproken, waarbij ook de vorming van het atriumseptum en de pathofysiologie worden behandeld. Hierna wordt uitgebreid stilgestaan bij de diverse congenitale afwijkingen waarbij de atria zijn betrokken, zoals: het cor triatriatum, het atriumseptumdefect type II, het partiële en het complete atrioventriculaire septumdefect, het sinusvenosusdefect en de unroofed coronary sinus. De invloed van deze defecten op de hemodynamiek en de bijpassende bevindingen bij echocardiografie worden helder uiteengezet. Als laatste wordt de echografie van de vena cava superior en de vena cava inferior besproken.
